Polaris Recalls Pro-RMK Snowmobiles Due to Injury, Death Hazard

Summary

Polaris is recalling about 82 of its 2013 Pro-RMK 600 and 800 snowmobiles because a bolt on the front left shock can fail. If this bolt breaks, the operator can lose control of the vehicle, creating a serious risk of a crash. These snowmobiles were sold in red, white, and black at Polaris dealers nationwide between August and October 2012 for prices ranging from $10,800 to $12,500. No incidents or injuries have been reported to date.

Risk

The bolt attaching the front lower left shock to the vehicle can fail during operation. This causes the suspension to collapse or shift, leading to a sudden loss of steering control and an immediate risk of a crash, injury, or death.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your snowmobile for the model name 'Pro-RMK' on the lower left and right sides of the hood and the numbers '155' or '163' on the rear of the tunnel to see if it is affected.
  2. Locate the model number and serial number on the right-hand side of the tunnel below the seat and compare them to the affected list: 600 PRO RMK 155 (Model S13CG6GSA), 800 PRO RMK 163 (Model S13CH8GSA), and 800 PRO RMK 163 ES (Model S13CH8GSL).
  3. Immediately stop using any recalled snowmobiles to prevent a potential loss of control or crash.
  4. Contact any Polaris snowmobile dealer to schedule a free repair of the shock bolt.
  5. For more information, contact Polaris toll-free at 888-704-5290 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.polaris.com and navigate to the News and Events section under the 'Company' menu.
  6. Contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
