Summary

Peloton is recalling approximately 54,000 PR70P Clip-In pedals (fitted on about 27,000 bikes) because they can break unexpectedly during use. The firm has received 120 reports of pedal breakages, including 16 reports of leg injuries, five of which required medical care such as stitches. These first-generation pedals were sold on Peloton bikes between July 2013 and May 2016 for approximately $2,000. Peloton is providing free replacement pedals and installation instructions to all affected consumers.

Risk

The pedal body can fracture or break during a workout, causing the rider to lose their footing and suffer deep lacerations or other leg injuries from the broken components.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your pedals by looking for the 'PR70P' model number and checking the design: the Peloton logo and 'PELOTON' are molded into the black pedal body, and an orange symbol with white 'PELOTON' lettering is on the top of the cleat binding.
  2. Immediately stop using any Peloton bike fitted with these first-generation PR70P pedals sold between July 2013 and May 2016.
  3. Contact Peloton at 844-410-0141 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET on weekends to receive your free replacement pedals and self-installation instructions.
  4. Check your email or Peloton touchscreen for a direct notification from the company regarding this recall and follow the provided prompts if you have not already replaced your pedals.
  5. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.
