Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing: 2022 Lexus and Toyota Vehicles Recalled for Parking Brake Failure

Summary

Toyota is recalling approximately 83,725 vehicles, including certain 2022 Lexus NX250, Lexus NX350, and Toyota Tundra models. A software error in the Skid Control ECU may incorrectly detect an electrical issue, causing the electronic parking brake to fail and preventing it from being engaged. Dealers will reprogram the affected control software free of charge to resolve the issue. Owners were notified by mail starting in November 2022.

Risk

If the electronic parking brake fails to engage while the vehicle is in 'park,' the vehicle could unexpectedly roll away. This increases the risk of a crash and potential injury to bystanders or occupants.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is affected by checking your specific model: this recall includes 2022 Lexus NX250, 2022 Lexus NX350, and 2022 Toyota Tundra vehicles.
  2. Contact an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer to schedule a free appointment to have your vehicle's Skid Control ECU software reprogrammed.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and mention recall numbers 22TA11 or 22LA04.
