Paramount Recalls Trident Ultraviolet Sanitation Systems for Pools Due to Fire Hazard

Summary

Paramount is recalling approximately 960 Trident Series 2 (UV II) ultraviolet sanitation systems for swimming pools because they can catch fire. The gray, tube-shaped units stand about 32 inches tall and work alongside pool chemicals to sanitize water using ultraviolet light. While no injuries have been reported, electrical arcing within the units poses a significant fire risk. These systems were sold by pool companies nationwide between September 2013 and January 2014 for between $600 and $750. Consumers should immediately disconnect the units from their power source and contact Paramount for a free replacement and installation.

Risk

Internal electrical arcing can occur within the sanitation unit, which can cause the device to catch fire. This presents a serious fire hazard to the pool equipment area and surrounding structures.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the front of your pool sanitation unit for a black label that says 'Trident UV II' or 'Series 2 Trident Ultraviolet Corporation UV Sanitation System.'
  2. Locate the silver sticker on the unit to verify the model and date code. Look for wording such as 'Paramount Series 2 Ultraviolet Pool Sanitizer System,' 'Trident Series 2 Ultraviolet Water Treatment System,' or 'Trident Ultra UV Series 2 Water Treatment System.'
  3. Identify the date code on the silver sticker. Units with a date code of 9/9/2013 or later, or units with a series of letters for the date code, are included in this recall.
  4. If your unit has letters in the date code, visit www.1paramount.com to confirm if your specific system is affected.
  5. If your unit is affected, immediately unplug it from the electrical outlet. If the unit is hard-wired into your pool's electrical system, turn off the power at the circuit breaker and disconnect it.
  6. Contact Paramount at 800-621-5886 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or email uvrecall@1paramount.com to arrange for a free replacement unit and free professional installation.
  7. You can also visit www.1paramount.com and click on the red 'UV RECALL' button for more information and to register your unit.
  8. For further questions or to report a safety concern, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
