Summary

Spartan Fire, LLC is recalling 69 fire trucks, including 2020-2023 Spartan Fire S-180 Pumper, Smeal Aerial, Smeal Pumper, and Spartan Fire Ladder Tower Aerial Fire Apparatus models. A firmware defect in the vehicle's electrical multiplex system may prevent the system from shutting off power during a short circuit or wiring failure. This fault leads to overloaded electrical circuits that can overheat, and Spartan Fire will update the vehicle firmware for all affected units free of charge.

Risk

If a short circuit occurs, the software fails to cut power to the affected wiring, causing the electrical circuits to overheat and significantly increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is one of the 69 affected units: 2020-2023 Spartan Fire S-180 Pumper, Smeal Aerial, Smeal Pumper, or Spartan Fire Ladder Tower Aerial Fire Apparatus.

  3. Schedule a free appointment with Spartan Fire to have the vehicle multiplex system firmware updated to ensure electrical circuits shut off correctly during a fault.
