Summary

Ningbo Litesun Electric is recalling about 42,000 Commercial Electric 15-amp triplex outlet converters (also known as taps). These white plastic devices convert one outlet into three, but the front-facing outlet was manufactured with reversed internal wiring. One person has already reported being shocked while using this product. The recalled converters were sold exclusively at Home Depot stores and online from February 2017 through July 2017 for approximately $5; consumers should return them for a full refund.

Risk

The front outlet prongs are incorrectly configured, causing reverse polarity when a plug is inserted. This defect creates a direct risk of electrical shock to the user and can cause connected devices to overheat or spark, leading to a fire.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled Commercial Electric triplex outlet converters.
  2. Identify the product by checking for model number LA-05, which is molded into the plastic on the side where the prongs are located.
  3. Verify the UPC code 818897010121, which is printed on a sticker on the top of the converter alongside the UL listing logo.
  4. Return the recalled outlet converter to any Home Depot store to receive a full refund of the purchase price.
  5. For more information, contact Home Depot toll-free at 877-527-0313 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Saturday, or visit www.homedepot.com and click on 'Product Recalls' at the bottom of the page.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
