Summary

Daimler Coaches North America is recalling 77 model year 2022-2024 Mercedes Benz Tourrider Business and Mercedes Benz Tourrider Premium vehicles equipped with BraunAbility wheelchair lifts. The outer barrier of the lift system may deploy unexpectedly, which fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for platform lift systems. Dealers will relocate the ground sensing pressure switch for owners at no cost to resolve the issue.

Risk

If the outer barrier deploys unexpectedly, the platform may fail to securely retain a wheelchair. This creates a significant risk that a wheelchair occupant could fall from the lift, resulting in serious injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle registration or purchase records to determine if you own a 2022-2024 Mercedes Benz Tourrider Business or Mercedes Benz Tourrider Premium coach equipped with a BraunAbility wheelchair lift.
  2. Contact Daimler Coaches customer service at 1-416-624-3558 to confirm if your specific vehicle is part of recall TI 86.10T24282A.
  3. If your vehicle is affected, schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer to have the ground sensing pressure switch relocated free of charge.
  4. For further information or to report a safety concern, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
