Summary

One World Technologies has recalled about 578,000 Ryobi model P113 dual chemistry battery chargers (and an additional 49,000 in Canada). These green and grey chargers can overheat and malfunction, posing fire and burn risks. There have been 25 reports of the chargers overheating, which resulted in property damage to workbenches, countertops, and carpeting. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chargers and contact the company for a free replacement.

Risk

The internal components of the charger can malfunction and overheat during use. This creates a fire hazard that can damage surrounding surfaces and a burn hazard to anyone touching the device.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the data plate on the bottom of your charger to check if it is affected.
  2. Identify if your charger is a Ryobi model P113 and look for the year/week (YY/WW) date code. Affected units have date codes between 0731 and 0852 and do not have a nine-digit part number on the label.
  3. Immediately remove any battery from the charger, stop using the device, and unplug it from the wall outlet.
  4. Contact One World Technologies toll-free at 800-597-9624 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.ryobitools.com and click on 'Important Safety Information' at the bottom of the page to request a free replacement charger.
  5. For additional questions, call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
