Navistar, Inc.: International Trucks Recalled for Obstructed Back-Up Lights

Summary

Navistar is recalling approximately 32,880 International brand vehicles across several models ranging from the year 2000 to 2024. These vehicles were manufactured with back-up lights that are difficult to see when the vehicle is in reverse and operating without a trailer (bobtail mode). This lack of visibility fails to meet federal safety standards for lighting equipment. Dealers will replace the existing rear stop/turn signal lights with a compliant version free of charge.

Risk

Low visibility or obstructed back-up lights may fail to alert other drivers or pedestrians that the vehicle is reversing. This significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury to those behind the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and year to see if it is one of the affected International models: 8100 (2000-2003), 9100i (2001-2003), 9400i (2001-2007), 9200i (2001-2010), 8500 (2002-2007, 2009), 9900i (2003-2007, 2013), 8600 (2003-2018), 9900iX (2004, 2007), ProStar (2008-2018), LoneStar (2010-2011, 2013, 2016), 4400 (2011-2012, 2016), LT (2017-2024), RH (2018-2024), LS (2019-2021), or MV (2019-2024).
  2. If your vehicle is affected, contact an authorized Navistar dealer to schedule a free replacement of the rear stop/turn signal lights.
  3. You can contact Navistar's customer service directly at 1-800-448-7825 and refer to recall number 23514.
