Summary

Norco is recalling about 90 Havoc 24-inch and 26-inch bicycles from the 2011 model year because the bicycle frame can crack at the joint where the top tube meets the down tube. The firm has received three reports of these frames cracking, which could cause the bike to separate while in use. These bicycles were sold at authorized Norco dealers nationwide from November 2010 to September 2011 for approximately $600. Consumers should immediately stop using these bikes and return them to an authorized Norco dealer for a free replacement.

Risk

A cracked frame can separate while riding, causing the consumer to lose control of the bicycle and fall, posing a serious risk of injury or death. Three incidents of frame cracking have been reported, though no injuries have occurred yet.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your bicycle frame for the serial number, which is stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket, below the word 'Havoc.'
  2. Confirm if your bicycle is affected by checking for serial numbers beginning with K10DQ, K10FQ, K10IQ, K10KQ, P10K, P10F, or P11B.
  3. Identify the bike by its size and color: 24-inch models are semi-matte grey and 26-inch models are semi-matte red; some also feature a 'Norco' crest on the head tube.
  4. If your bicycle is part of this recall, stop using it immediately to prevent a potential frame failure.
  5. Return the affected bicycle to any authorized Norco dealer to receive a free replacement.
  6. For more information, contact Norco Bicycles at 800-227-5579 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.norco.com and click on 'Recall.'
  7. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this safety recall.
