Summary

Nokia is recalling about 500 Travel Charger Kits (model AC-300) sold for the Lumia 2520 tablet. The plastic covers on the charger’s exchangeable plugs can come loose and separate, exposing live internal parts. While no injuries have been reported, consumers should immediately stop using these chargers and contact Nokia for a refund or credit and a free U.S.-only replacement charger. These chargers were sold at AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores and online between January and May 2014.

Risk

The plastic plug cover can detach while the charger is plugged into an outlet, exposing internal metal components. If a consumer touches these exposed parts while the plug remains in a live socket, they can suffer a severe electric shock or electrocution.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your device to see if you have the Nokia Travel Charger accessory kit (AC-300) sold for the Lumia 2520 tablet. The kit includes four different black plastic exchangeable plugs for use in the U.S., U.K., EU, and Australia.
  2. Confirm if your charger is affected: The recalled chargers measure approximately 2.75 inches high by 2.3 inches wide. Note that U.S. chargers originally bundled inside the box with the tablet are NOT included in this recall.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled Travel Charger kit and its exchangeable plugs.
  4. Contact Nokia toll-free at 888-665-4228 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.nokia.com and click 'Recall Notice' for instructions on how to receive a remedy.
  5. Verizon Wireless customers can receive a full refund, while AT&T customers can receive a credit for the travel charger; both retailers will also provide a free replacement U.S.-only charger.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have further questions or want to report a related incident.
