Summary

myStromer has recalled approximately 195 ST5 pedal-assist electric bicycles because the bicycle stem can break while in use. This defect poses a significant risk of crashes and serious injury to the rider. The e-bikes were sold in black or gray aluminum frames at authorized dealers nationwide between April 2018 and February 2019 for approximately $10,000. Owners should immediately stop using these bicycles and contact an authorized dealer for a free repair.

Risk

The stem, which connects the handlebars to the bicycle fork, can suddenly break. If this occurs while riding, the rider could lose control and crash, leading to serious physical injuries. One incident of a stem breaking has already been reported.

What You Should Do

  3. Check the bicycle frame for identifying marks: 'Stromer' is printed on the top tube, seat, and chain guard, while 'ST5' is printed on the downtube.
