Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing: Toyota Crown Recalled for Backup and Front Camera Failure

Summary

Toyota is recalling 13,077 model year 2023 Toyota Crown vehicles equipped with rearview and frontview cameras. In these vehicles, the camera cases may have been insufficiently laser-welded, which can allow water to leak inside the housing and cause a short circuit. If this happens, the camera images may be distorted or fail to appear on the dashboard display. Dealers will inspect the cameras and replace them if necessary at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the rearview camera image does not display or is distorted while the vehicle is in reverse, the driver's rear visibility is significantly reduced. This increases the risk of hitting a person or object, potentially leading to a crash or injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if you own a 2023 Toyota Crown vehicle equipped with rearview or frontview camera systems.
  2. If you experience a distorted or missing camera image on your display, use extra caution when reversing or maneuvering and contact your dealer immediately.
  3. Contact any authorized Toyota dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a replacement of your frontview and rearview cameras.
  4. For more information, you may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and reference Toyota recall numbers 24TB08 or 24TA08.
  5. Contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for further assistance.
