Summary

Mission Archery is recalling about 9,500 Mission MXB crossbows because they can fire an arrow unexpectedly without the trigger being pulled. This recall includes models MXB 320, MXB Dagger, MXB 400, and MXB 360 with serial numbers between XB04879 and XB16555. These crossbows were sold nationwide from May 2013 through April 2014 in black and various camouflage patterns including lost camo AT, white, and pink. Mission Archery has received three reports of the crossbows firing unexpectedly, and consumers should immediately stop using them and contact an authorized dealer for a free repair.

Risk

The crossbow's automatic safety mechanism can fail, causing the device to discharge an arrow without the user pulling the trigger. This poses a serious risk of puncture wounds or other impact injuries to the user and any bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using any of the affected Mission MXB 320, MXB Dagger, MXB 400, or MXB 360 crossbows.
  2. Check the serial number on your crossbow to see if it falls within the range XB04879 to XB16555. The serial number is located on the underside of the rail directly behind the safety.
  3. Verify the model name, which is printed on each limb of the crossbow, and look for 'Mission by Mathews' engraved on the left rear side of the rail.
  4. Take your recalled crossbow to any Mission Archery authorized dealer for a free repair.
  5. Alternatively, contact Mission Archery toll-free at 844-334-8991 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday for instructions on how to ship the product directly to them for a free repair, which includes the cost of shipping.
  6. Visit www.missionarchery.com and click on the crossbow tab for more information regarding this recall.
