Summary

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling approximately 22,422 vehicles including certain 2019-2025 CLS 53, E 53, GT 43, and GT 53 models because the transmission wiring harness may have been installed incorrectly. This misrouting can allow water to enter the electrical connector, leading to corrosion and a potential short circuit. Owners should be aware that even if their vehicle was repaired under a previous recall (22V-533), they must have this new repair performed to ensure the vehicle is safe. Dealers will replace the wiring harness and connector free of charge.

Risk

A short circuit in the transmission wiring harness can lead to an electrical fire, increasing the risk of injury to occupants and damage to the vehicle.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your model and year: 2019-2021 CLS 53 4MATIC, 2019-2023 E 53 4MATIC (Cabriolet, Coupe, or Sedan), 2021-2024 GT 43 4MATIC, or 2019-2025 GT 53 4MATIC.
  2. Locate your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or the Mercedes-Benz website to confirm your specific vehicle is included in recall number 2024100002/3.
  3. Contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to schedule a free repair of the two-part wiring harness and connector, even if you previously had repairs done under recall 22V-533.
  4. If you have additional questions, contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-877-496-3691 and reference recall number 2024100002/3.
  5. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov for more information.
