Summary

Pratt Intermodal Chassis is recalling 320 of its 2022-2023 GN30402-EC-6P container chassis trailers. When these trailers are used in the 20-foot configuration, the mid-beam of the chassis can bend or crack if the chassis is fully loaded or if the container is overloaded. Dealers will inspect the mid-beam for cracks and, if none are found, modify the chassis to be used exclusively in the 40-foot position; however, if cracks are found, the trailer can no longer be used.

Risk

A cracked or bent mid-beam can cause the trailer to fail completely or the load to separate from the vehicle while in motion. This failure significantly increases the risk of a crash or serious injury to the driver and other road users.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a Pratt Intermodal Chassis model GN30402-EC-6P container chassis trailer from the 2022-2023 model years.
  2. Check your records or the trailer identification plate for Pratt's internal recall number: 2023-00001.
  3. Contact Pratt Intermodal Chassis customer service at 1-269-262-0933 to schedule a free inspection and potential modification of the chassis mid-beam.
  4. If the inspection reveals that the mid-beam is already cracked, do not continue to use the trailer, as it is considered unsafe and cannot be repaired under this program.
  5. For more information or to report concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
