Med-Pharmex, Inc. is recalling 3,696 gallons of Sulfadimethoxine Oral Solution (12.5%) after "fluffy flakes" of particulate matter were discovered in the 1-gallon plastic containers. The recall affects two brands of the antibacterial medication used in drinking water: Sulforal and MWI VETone. These products were distributed to two customers in Nebraska, California, and Kansas in boxes containing four 1-gallon containers.

Risk

The presence of unknown particulate matter (fluffy flakes) in an oral solution can cause physical irritation or potentially interfere with the effectiveness and safety of the antibacterial treatment. While no specific animal injuries have been reported, contaminated medications should not be administered to livestock or pets.
