Summary

Master Cutlery is recalling about 4,000 MTech USA Karambit neck knives and sheaths because the sheath does not hold the knife securely. This defect allows the knife to fall out unexpectedly, creating a serious cutting hazard. The affected half-moon shaped knives have a 7-inch urban camo print blade and were sold exclusively at Big 5 Sporting Goods stores between March 2014 and May 2014 for approximately $20.

Risk

The sheath's failure to securely grip the blade can cause the sharp knife to slip out without warning while being worn or handled, which poses a significant risk of lacerations to the user. No injuries have been reported to date.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your knife for the 'MTech USA' logo laser-printed on the blade and model number 'MT-664UC-SO' marked on the back of the knife to see if it is included in this recall.
  2. Immediately stop using the recalled knife and sheath, and store them in a safe, secure area away from children.
  3. Contact Master Cutlery toll-free at (888) 271-7229 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.mastercutlery.com and click on 'Recall Information' to receive instructions on obtaining a free replacement sheath.
  4. Verify your replacement sheath by checking for the 'MTech USA' logo laser-printed on the back of the new sheath.
  5. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
