Summary

MAI / Genesis is recalling 7,752 veterinary kits, including Canine Collection A/I Kits and various Creative Pet Products first aid kits for horses and dogs. These kits contain sterile lubricant jelly packs and alcohol prep pads manufactured by TRIAD Group that may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus bacteria or may not have been properly sterilized during the radiation process. Consumers should immediately stop using the affected kits and contact their veterinarian or the manufacturer for guidance on returning the product for a refund.

Risk

The sterile lubricant and alcohol pads within these kits may contain Bacillus cereus, a bacteria that can cause serious infections in animals. Additionally, the sterilization process for these components was found to be potentially invalid, meaning the products may not be truly sterile and could introduce harmful pathogens during medical or collection procedures.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you have any of the following affected products: Veterinary Concepts Canine Collection A/I Kit (Product No: 19250), Creative Pet Products Horse Aid First Aid Kit (10140), Sporting Doc Premium Kit (10145), Sporting Dog II Portable Field Kit (10148), or K9 First Aid Kit for Police & Military (10151).
  2. Check the Recall Number on your kit packaging; affected units are marked with Recall #: V-123-2011 or V-124-2011.
  3. Stop using the kits immediately, particularly the lubricant jelly packs and alcohol prep pads contained within them.
  4. Contact your veterinarian or healthcare provider if your animal has shown signs of infection after the use of these products.
  5. Return any unused kits to the place of purchase for a refund or contact MAI / Genesis at their Elmwood, Wisconsin facility for further instructions.
  6. For additional questions, contact the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine at 1-240-402-7002.
