Summary

Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling 247 vehicles, including 2026 Anthem and 2025-2026 Pioneer trucks, because the automatic high beam system may fail to switch to low beam headlights when needed. This failure to dim the lights can blind oncoming traffic, significantly increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. As a temporary measure, Mack will provide an over-the-air (OTA) software update to disable the automatic high beam feature until a permanent repair is developed.

Risk

If the high beams fail to automatically switch to low beams for oncoming vehicles, it reduces visibility for other drivers on the road. This lack of visibility can prevent oncoming drivers from seeing the road or other hazards, leading to a higher risk of a collision.

What You Should Do

  1. This recall involves 2026 Mack Anthem and 2025-2026 Mack Pioneer commercial vehicles with automatic high beam features (Manufacturer recall number SC0488).
  2. Owners should check if their specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is affected by using the search tool at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls; VIN data for this recall will be available starting November 27, 2025.
  3. Owners of affected vehicles will receive an over-the-air (OTA) software update that will automatically disable the automatic high beam (AHB) feature free of charge.
  4. If your vehicle does not receive the software update automatically, or if you have further questions, contact Mack Trucks customer service at 1-800-866-1177 and reference recall SC0488.
  5. Watch for a follow-up notification letter from Mack around June 1, 2026, which will provide instructions on the final remedy once it has been developed.
  6. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information regarding campaign 25V803.
