Summary

Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling 775 of its 2022-2027 TerraPro trucks because of a defect in the engine control unit (ECU) software. This software error may allow the vehicle's engine to start even when the transmission is not in the 'Neutral' position. Dealers will provide a free software update to fix this issue, and owner notification letters were mailed on April 14, 2026.

Risk

If the vehicle is started while it is still in gear, it may move unexpectedly. This sudden movement increases the risk of a crash or injury to the driver and bystanders.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's identification number (VIN) to see if it is included in this recall. You can search your VIN on the NHTSA.gov website as of March 18, 2026.
  2. Contact an authorized Mack Trucks dealer to schedule a free appointment to have your engine control unit (ECU) software updated.
  3. If you have additional questions, contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177 and refer to recall number SC0492.
  4. Call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls for more information.
