Summary

Approximately 10,500 Hampton Bay and Home Decorators Collection crystal chandeliers are being recalled because the included halogen bulbs can cause the fixture to overheat and melt. There have been 39 reports of plastic melting, wires burning, or overheating, and one report of the unit catching fire. The recall affects the Hampton Bay 3-Light model (03179-4) and the Home Decorators Collection 4-Light model (19161-4) sold at Home Depot between September 2013 and February 2017. Consumers should immediately stop using these lights and contact Lumicentro Internacional for a free LED upgrade kit.

Risk

The 50-watt halogen bulbs supplied with these fixtures generate excessive heat that can melt the plastic components and burn the internal wiring. This defect poses a significant fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries to anyone touching the overheated fixture.

What You Should Do

  2. Check the top of the unit for the model number to confirm if it is affected: look for Hampton Bay 3-Light model 03179-4 or Home Decorators Collection 4-Light model 19161-4.
  3. Contact Lumicentro Internacional toll-free at 888-356-6430 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.lumicentro.com to request a free upgrade kit.
  4. The upgrade kit will include 5-watt LED bulbs, a suction cup for installation, an updated manual, and new warning labels stating the fixture is only rated for LED bulbs with a maximum of 6.5 watts.
