Ford Motor Company: 2020-2023 Mustang Recalled for Inoperative Low Brake Fluid Warning Light

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 187,922 of its 2020-2023 Mustang vehicles because the brake fluid level sensor may fail to turn on the dashboard warning light when fluid is low. This defect means a driver may not realize their vehicle is running out of brake fluid until braking performance is significantly reduced. Owners can take their vehicle to a Ford dealer to receive a free software update to the body control module to fix the issue.

Risk

If the vehicle is driven with low brake fluid without a warning light, the braking system will not function correctly, which increases the distance needed to stop and significantly raises the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's registration or VIN to confirm if it is a 2020, 2021, 2022, or 2023 Ford Mustang.
  2. Contact a Ford dealer to schedule a free appointment to have the body control module software updated.
  3. If you have questions, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 23C35.
