Daimler Trucks North America, LLC: Various 2025 Transit Buses and Trucks Recalled for Loss of Steering Control

Summary

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 541 vehicles, including 2025 Freightliner Cascadia, 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, and Western Star 47X and 49X models. This recall also affects certain Freightliner Custom Chassis S2RV 106 and S2C 106 transit buses and chassis. The front axle tie rod ball joint studs in these vehicles can crack and break, potentially leading to the tie rod separating from the steering system. Dealers will replace the tie rod assembly with a new one at no cost to the owner.

Risk

The tie rod is a critical component that connects the steering system to the wheels; if it separates, the driver will suffer a sudden and complete loss of steering control. This failure significantly increases the risk of a serious crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the following 2025 models: Freightliner Cascadia, 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, Western Star 47X, Western Star 49X, or Freightliner Custom Chassis S2RV 106 and S2C 106.
  2. Contact an authorized Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) dealer to schedule a free replacement of the tie rod assembly.
  3. If you have questions, contact DTNA customer service at 800-745-8000 and reference recall number D24R6.
  4. For additional information, you may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
