Summary

Dana Incorporated is recalling 11,089 D-Series and E-Series Steer Axles, along with replacement tie rod assemblies. The tie rod assemblies contain ball studs that may have been incorrectly heat-treated, making them prone to breaking. Dana will notify original equipment manufacturers and distributors to inspect and replace affected ball studs free of charge.

Risk

If a ball stud breaks, the tie rod can fail, causing a sudden loss of vehicle steering control and significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's equipment to see if it is equipped with Dana D-Series or E-Series Steer Axles or if you have recently purchased a replacement tie rod assembly for these axles.
  2. If you suspect your vehicle is affected, contact Dana customer service at 1-419-887-3000 to discuss inspection and the free replacement of ball studs.
  3. You may also contact your vehicle's manufacturer or the dealership where the axle or replacement part was installed to see if your specific VIN or part number is included in this recall.
  4. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
