Summary

Nissan North America is recalling 20,040 model year 2021 Versa and Kicks vehicles due to a defect in the electric power steering torque sensor. An intermittent electrical connection within this sensor can cause the power steering assist to stop working while the vehicle is in motion. Nissan dealers will inspect the steering column torque sensor lot code and replace the steering column assembly if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were scheduled to be mailed beginning November 9, 2022.

Risk

If the power steering assist is disabled, the steering wheel will become much harder to turn, particularly at low speeds. This unexpected increase in steering effort can lead to a loss of vehicle control and increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if you own a 2021 Nissan Versa or a 2021 Nissan Kicks affected by this recall.
  2. Contact a local authorized Nissan dealer to schedule a free inspection of your vehicle's steering column torque sensor lot code.
  3. If the dealer determines your vehicle's torque sensor is within the affected production lot, they will replace the steering column assembly free of charge.
  4. For further information or assistance, contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-867-7669 and reference recall numbers PMA10 or PMA25.
