Summary

Maintainer Corporation of Iowa is recalling approximately 1,120 Maintainer Service Trucks from model years 2019 through 2023 that are equipped with Hydraulic Telescopic Cranes. The recall was initiated because the crane can continue moving unexpectedly if power is disconnected from the receiver during operation. Maintainer will provide a free software update to address this malfunction, and owner notification letters began mailing in February 2023.

Risk

If power is lost to the crane's receiver, the operator may lose the ability to stop or direct the crane's movement. This uncontrolled movement poses a serious risk of injury to the crane operator and any workers or bystanders in the vicinity of the heavy machinery.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if you own a Maintainer Service Truck with a Hydraulic Telescopic Crane manufactured between 2019 and 2023.
  2. Contact Maintainer customer service at 1-800-831-8588 to confirm if your specific unit is part of this recall and to schedule a free software update.
  3. Follow any specific safety instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding crane operation until the software update has been successfully installed.
  4. For additional information or to report safety concerns, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
