Ford Motor Company: Loss of Drive Power from Undetected Low Battery

Summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling 76 of its 2024 Bronco Sport vehicles because the internal control modules may fail to detect when the 12-volt battery has a low charge. If the battery charge drops undetected, the vehicle can unexpectedly lose drive power or lose electrical accessories like hazard lights while in motion. Owners of these vehicles should contact a Ford dealer to have a free software update performed on the body and powertrain control modules.

Risk

The defect can cause a sudden loss of engine power or the failure of critical electrical safety features like hazard lights, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking if you own a 2024 Ford Bronco Sport. You can also verify your VIN by calling Ford or checking the NHTSA website.
  2. Contact a local Ford dealer to schedule a free appointment to update the body control module (BCM) and powertrain control module (PCM) software.
  3. If your vehicle was previously serviced for this same issue under a different recall (number 24V-267), you must still have this new remedy (recall 24S60) performed to fully address the problem.
  4. For further information or assistance, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 24S60.
  5. For additional questions, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
