Summary

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 29 units of the 2025-2026 Tucson and Santa Fe vehicles. The connecting rod bolts in the engine may not have been tightened correctly during manufacturing, which can cause severe engine damage or a complete loss of drive power. Hyundai dealers will replace the entire engine in affected vehicles free of charge.

Risk

A sudden loss of drive power while driving increases the risk of a crash. Furthermore, the engine damage caused by loose bolts can result in an oil leak; if leaking oil contacts hot engine components, it can cause a fire in the engine compartment.

What You Should Do

  1. The recalled products are 2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson and Santa Fe vehicles with engines that may contain improperly tightened connecting rod bolts.
  2. Contact an authorized Hyundai dealer to schedule a service appointment for a free engine replacement.
  3. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. When calling, refer to Hyundai's internal recall number 281.
  4. For additional information or to check if your specific VIN is included, call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
