Summary

Nissan North America is recalling approximately 9,813 of its 2023 Ariya electric vehicles due to a software error in the inverter. The system may incorrectly detect a short circuit and shut down the electric vehicle system while driving, causing an unexpected loss of drive power. Dealers will provide a software update to the inverter free of charge to resolve this issue.

Risk

A sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion increases the risk of a crash, as the driver may be unable to maintain speed or move the vehicle safely out of traffic.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your 2023 Nissan Ariya is affected by checking the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website or by contacting a Nissan dealer.
  2. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Nissan dealer to have the inverter software reprogrammed free of charge.
  3. If you have questions or need to confirm your vehicle's status, contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 and reference recall number R23C6.
  4. For additional information, you may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
