Summary

Daimler Vans USA is recalling approximately 20,500 vehicles, including 2021 Freightliner Sprinter vans and 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Metris vans. The fuel pump in these vehicles may shut down unexpectedly, causing a sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion. To address this safety defect, authorized dealers will replace the fuel pump with an improved part free of charge.

Risk

If the fuel pump fails while driving, the engine will lose power, which can lead to a sudden stall or inability to accelerate. This condition significantly increases the risk of a crash, especially in high-speed or heavy traffic situations.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking the model and year: this recall includes 2021 Freightliner Sprinter, 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Metris models.
  2. Locate your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) customer service at 1-877-762-8267 to confirm your vehicle is part of recall number 4790205.
  3. Schedule an appointment with an authorized Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner dealer to have the fuel pump replaced free of charge.
  4. For additional information or to verify your VIN online, visit the NHTSA website at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
