Summary

Hyundai Motor America is recalling approximately 54,647 vehicles including the 2019-2022 Veloster N, 2019-2023 Genesis G70, and 2022-2023 Elantra N and Kona N models. The fuel pump in these vehicles may fail, which can lead to a sudden loss of drive power while operating the vehicle. To address this safety issue, Hyundai dealers will update the engine control module software and inspect the fuel pump assembly, replacing it for free if necessary.

Risk

A failed fuel pump can cause the engine to stall or lose power unexpectedly while driving. This sudden loss of propulsion increases the risk of a crash, especially at higher speeds or in heavy traffic.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your vehicle is affected by checking your specific model and year: 2019-2022 Veloster N, 2019-2023 Genesis G70, 2022-2023 Elantra N, or 2022-2023 Kona N.
  2. Contact any authorized Hyundai dealer to schedule a free appointment for a software update and a fuel pump inspection.
  3. If the inspection reveals a faulty fuel pump, the dealer will replace the fuel pump assembly at no cost to you.
  4. For additional information, contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and reference recall numbers 262 or 023G.
  5. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
