Summary

Kia America, Inc. is recalling approximately 342 of its 2025 EV9 vehicles. The rear gear drive unit (GDU) motor shaft in these vehicles may have been improperly welded, which can cause the shaft to break and result in a sudden loss of drive power. Kia dealers will replace the entire rear gear drive unit with a new one free of charge.

Risk

If the motor shaft breaks while the vehicle is in motion, the car will lose drive power unexpectedly. This sudden loss of propulsion increases the risk of a crash, especially in high-speed or heavy traffic situations.
