Summary

Honda is recalling 19 specific 2023 CR-V Hybrid and Accord Hybrid vehicles because the electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT) may have been manufactured incorrectly. This manufacturing defect can cause a sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion. To fix this issue, dealers will replace the entire transmission assembly at no cost to the owners. Notification letters were sent to affected owners in October 2023.

Risk

A sudden loss of drive power while driving can prevent the vehicle from maintaining speed or accelerating, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the 19 affected units by locating your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and visiting www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or the Honda recall lookup tool.
  2. Contact an authorized Honda dealer to schedule an appointment for a free replacement of the electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT).
  3. Refer to Honda's internal recall reference numbers NFG and HFF when speaking with service departments or customer service representatives.
  4. For further information or assistance, contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.
  5. If you have additional questions, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
