Summary

Volvo Car USA is recalling approximately 11,469 vehicles across several electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models because they may experience a loss of brake function. The defect occurs in specific driving scenarios, such as coasting downhill while using "B" mode or the "One Pedal Drive" feature. To address this risk, Volvo will provide a free software update for the brake module, which can be performed over-the-air (OTA) or at an authorized dealership.

Risk

A loss of brake function while driving prevents the vehicle from stopping as expected, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

  2. Stop using "B" Mode (for plug-in hybrid vehicles) or "One Pedal Drive" (for pure electric vehicles) immediately until the vehicle has been repaired.
  3. Check your vehicle's infotainment system for an over-the-air (OTA) software update notification; the brake module software fix may be installed remotely at no cost.
  4. If your vehicle is not equipped for over-the-air updates or you prefer in-person service, contact an authorized Volvo dealer to have the brake module software updated free of charge.
