Summary

Kia America, Inc. is recalling 4 of its 2024 EV9 vehicles because a cover on the front passenger seat belt retractor may not be secured properly. This loose cover can prevent the seat belt from locking correctly during an emergency or when trying to secure a child seat. To fix this issue, Kia dealers will replace the entire front passenger seat belt assembly at no cost to owners.

Risk

If the seat belt retractor does not lock as intended during a sudden stop or collision, the front passenger may not be properly restrained, significantly increasing the risk of injury.

What You Should Do

  1. Check if your vehicle is one of the 4 affected units by looking for a 2024 Kia EV9 in your VIN records or checking the NHTSA recall tool with campaign number 24V338.
  2. Contact a local Kia dealership to schedule a free repair; the dealer will replace the entire front passenger seat belt assembly.
  3. If you have already received a notification letter (mailed around June 5, 2024), refer to it for instructions or mention Kia recall number SC312 when calling.
  4. For further information or to ask questions about your vehicle, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.
  5. Call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional recall details.
