Summary

Nissan North America is recalling 5 of its 2024 Altima vehicles because the bolts connecting the electronic power steering unit to the steering rack may not be tightened correctly. This defect can cause the steering to loosen, lock up, or fail entirely while driving. Nissan dealers will replace the entire steering gear assembly at no cost to the owner to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate.

Risk

If the bolts loosen or fall out, the driver may suddenly lose the ability to steer the vehicle or experience a steering lock-up, which significantly increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Confirm if your vehicle is one of the 5 affected units by checking your VIN on the NHTSA website or contacting a Nissan dealer.
  2. Contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 and reference recall number PC997 to schedule a free repair.
  3. Take your vehicle to an authorized Nissan dealer, where they will replace the steering gear assembly free of charge.
