Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 4,129 model year 2023-2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. These vehicles may have loose connections at the 12-volt battery positive cable or the high voltage connector cable, which can cause the electrical connections to overheat. Dealers will inspect and tighten these cable connections as necessary at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Risk

Loose electrical cables can cause the connections to overheat, which may result in a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the repair is complete to prevent fire spread to buildings.

What You Should Do

  1. Park this vehicle outdoors, away from structures — do NOT park in a garage or near buildings due to the risk of a fire occurring while the vehicle is parked.
  2. Check if your vehicle is included in the recall by contacting FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Reference recall number 98A.
  3. Schedule a free inspection and repair with an authorized dealer to have the 12-volt battery and high voltage connector cables checked and tightened as needed.
  4. Owners who have already received notification letters (mailed around September 28, 2023) should follow the instructions provided to arrange for the remedy.
  5. For additional information, contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
