Summary

Lochinvar LLC has recalled approximately 17,370 residential condensing boilers, combi boilers, and packaged systems sold under the Lochinvar, A. O. Smith, and State Industries brands. The boiler's flue collector can crack if it experiences a high-impact event within the burner chamber, allowing the unit to emit carbon monoxide. Lochinvar has received nine reports of broken flue collectors, though no injuries have been reported to date. The recalled units were sold between August 2021 and September 2023 for between $4,000 and $10,000. Consumers should contact their installer for a free repair consisting of a reinforcing steel plate.

Risk

A cracked flue collector allows the boiler to release carbon monoxide into the home instead of venting it outside. This poses a serious risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, which can lead to illness or death.
