Altec Industries, Inc.: Altec Utility Vehicles and Cranes Recalled for Potential Lighting Failure

Summary

Altec Industries, Inc. is recalling approximately 3,425 heavy-duty vehicles, including aerial devices, diggers, crane models, and service trucks from the 2023-2024 model years built on Freightliner M2 Plus chassis. The lighting wire harness in these vehicles may become overloaded, which can prevent the exterior lights from turning on. Owners can have their vehicles repaired by an authorized dealer who will rework the wiring and update the trailer module at no cost.

Risk

If the exterior lights fail to illuminate, the vehicle becomes significantly less visible to other drivers, especially at night or in poor weather conditions, which increases the risk of a crash.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your vehicle's make, model, and chassis type to see if it is a 2023-2024 Altec aerial device, digger, service truck, reel lifter, pressure washer, or articulating crane built on a Freightliner M2 Plus chassis.
  2. Verify if your vehicle is included in this recall by contacting Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 and referencing recall numbers CSN-3161 or CSN-3170.
  3. Contact an authorized Altec dealer to schedule a free repair, which includes reworking the lighting wire harness and updating the trailer module software as necessary.
  4. If you have additional questions regarding this safety recall, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
