Summary

Motor Coach Industries is recalling approximately 2,114 D4000, D4005, D4500, D4505, and D45CRT coaches from model years 2013 through 2024 that are equipped with Ricon wheelchair lifts. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough to meet federal safety standards. MCI will work with Ricon to replace these lighting kits free of charge to ensure proper visibility for passengers using the lift.

Risk

The red warning beacons may be too dim, making them difficult for wheelchair lift users to see. This lack of proper illumination increases the risk of a passenger falling or being injured while using the platform lift.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your coach is affected by checking the model and year: 2014-2018 D4000, 2013-2019 D4005, 2013-2023 D4500, 2013-2020 D4505, or 2021-2024 D45CRT equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift.
  2. Contact Motor Coach Industries (MCI) customer service at 1-800-241-2947 to arrange for a free replacement of the Threshold Warning System (TWS) kit.
  3. If you have further questions or have not received a notification letter, you may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
