Summary

LG Electronics has recalled approximately 161,000 electric ranges after 80 reports that burners may fail to turn off or heat settings may increase unexpectedly. These stainless steel, black, and white ranges feature a smooth black ceramic glass top and include model numbers LRE30451, LRE30453, LRE30755, LRE30757, and LRE30955ST. They were sold at Best Buy, Home Depot, Sears, and other retailers from January 2006 to June 2010. LG is providing a free in-home repair for all affected units.

Risk

The range burners can fail to shut off or may spontaneously increase in temperature during use. This defect creates a significant risk of accidental fires and can cause severe burns to anyone touching the cooktop or using the appliance.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your range's model and serial number by opening the storage drawer at the base of the unit to find the identification label.
  2. Identify if your range is one of the affected models: LRE30451, LRE30453, LRE30755, LRE30757, or LRE30955ST.
  3. Verify if your serial number begins with one of the following prefixes: 512, 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606, 607, 608, 609, 610, 611, 612, 701, 702, 703, 704, 705, 706, 707, 708, 709, 710, 711, 712, 801, 802, 803, 804, 805, 806, 807, 808, 809, 810, 901, 902, 903, 904, 905, or 906.
  4. If you experience a burner that will not turn off or a heat setting that cannot be regulated, stop using the range immediately until it is repaired.
  5. Contact LG toll-free at 855-400-4638 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to schedule a free in-home repair.
  6. Visit www.LG.com/us and click on 'Public Notices' in the Customer Services section for additional information and repair scheduling.
  7. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for further assistance or to report any incidents.
