Summary

Legrand Wiremold has expanded a recall for about 46,000 Wiremold and Plugmold under-cabinet power and lighting strips. The internal electrical connections in these units are substandard, which can cause the power strips to overheat and catch fire. One incident has been reported, though no injuries have occurred. Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug these power strips and return them to the company for a full refund.

Risk

The internal wiring of the power strip is defective and does not meet safety standards, leading to a risk of overheating and electrical fires. One incident involving this defect has already been reported.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the power strip and check the bottom of the unit for part number PX1001 and UPC number 0 86698 00125 3.
  2. Identify the manufacture date by looking for a circular stamp on the bottom of the power strip; the center will show '11', '12', or '13' for the year, and an arrow will point to the month (units manufactured from January 2011 through December 2013 are affected).
  3. Check the packaging if available: the product was sold in red boxes (Jan 2011–June 2012) labeled 'Under Cabinet Power and Lighting' or white boxes (July 2012–April 2013) labeled 'Plugmold Power Light'.
  4. If your unit matches these details, immediately unplug the power strip and stop using it to prevent fire risks.
  5. Contact Legrand Wiremold toll-free at 855-692-4620 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.legrand.us and click on 'Recall Information' to arrange for a return and receive a full refund.
  6. Contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for any additional questions.
