Summary

LaJolla Sport is recalling about 600 O'Neill Pluto brand boy's hooded flannel long-sleeve shirts because the drawstrings in the neck pose a strangulation hazard to children. These shirts were sold in dark grey with horizontal black stripes in child sizes small, medium, large, and extra-large. They were sold at various surf and specialty stores nationwide between September 2011 and December 2011 for approximately $60. Consumers should immediately stop using these shirts and remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard.

Risk

The hooded sweatshirts feature drawstrings at the neck which can become entangled or caught, posing a serious strangulation hazard to children. No incidents or injuries have been reported to date.

What You Should Do

  1. Check the labels on your child's dark grey hooded flannel shirt to see if it is affected. Look for the 'Pluto Flannel' name and Style No. 41204106 on the label sewn inside the wearer's left side seam, and 'O'NEILL' on the label inside the back neck.
  2. Immediately take the recalled sweatshirt away from your child and remove the drawstring from the hood to eliminate the danger.
  3. Return the garment to the original place of purchase or contact La Jolla Sport at (800) 213-6444 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday for a full refund.
