Summary

Indian Motorcycle Company is recalling 4,653 of its 2022 motorcycles, including the Chief, Chief Bobber, Chief Bobber Darkhorse, Chief Darkhorse, Super Chief, and Super Chief Limited models. These motorcycles have a kickstand that may not properly retract when it hits the ground if left extended while riding. Indian dealers will replace the kickstand on affected bikes at no cost to owners.

Risk

A kickstand that fails to retract upon contact with the ground can cause the motorcycle to become unstable or crash, increasing the risk of serious injury to the rider and others.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify if your motorcycle is affected by checking if it is a 2022 Indian Chief, Chief Bobber, Chief Bobber Darkhorse, Chief Darkhorse, Super Chief, or Super Chief Limited.
  2. Contact an authorized Indian Motorcycle dealer to schedule a free appointment to have your kickstand replaced.
  3. If you have already received a notification letter (mailed around February 17, 2023), bring it with you to the dealership to expedite the service.
  4. Contact Indian Motorcycle customer service at 1-877-204-3697 and reference recall number I-23-01 if you have questions about your specific vehicle.
  5. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
