Kawasaki USA Recalls Off-Highway Utility Vehicles Due to Injury Hazard (Recall Alert)

Summary

Kawasaki has recalled approximately 1,000 Mule Pro utility vehicles from the 2018 and 2019 model years because the rollover protection structure (ROPS) can fail. This structural failure means the vehicle may not properly protect occupants during a rollover, posing a serious injury risk. The affected vehicles were sold nationwide between August 2018 and September 2018 in various colors including black, green, white, red, bronze, silver, camo, and blue. Kawasaki is offering a free repair to all owners of the affected units.

Risk

The vehicle's rollover protection structure is designed to provide a survival space for occupants if the vehicle flips; however, this specific structure can fail during a rollover event. While no incidents or injuries have been reported, a failure during a crash or tip-over would leave the driver and passengers unprotected from being crushed or struck by the vehicle frame.

What You Should Do

  1. Immediately stop using the recalled 2018-2019 Kawasaki Mule Pro utility vehicles until they have been inspected and repaired.
  2. Check your vehicle's VIN to see if it is included in this recall. The VIN is located on the steel frame between the right front lower A-arm mounts. Affected 2018 models include Mule Pro-DXT (KAF1000AJF/BJF) and Pro-DX (KAF1000EJF). Affected 2019 models include Mule Pro-FXT (KAF820AKF/BKF/CKF/DKF/JKF), Pro-FX (KAF820FKF/GKF), and Pro-FXR (KAF820KKF).
  3. Contact an authorized Kawasaki dealer to schedule a free repair. You can find a dealer or check your VIN status by calling Kawasaki toll-free at 866-802-9381 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
  4. Visit www.Kawasaki.com and click on the 'Recalls' link for additional information and to verify if your specific VIN range is affected.
  5. For any additional questions or concerns, contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772.
