Kawasaki USA is recalling about 72,000 MULE PRO-FX, MULE PRO-FXR, and MULE PRO-FXT off-highway utility vehicles from the 2015 through 2020 model years. These vehicles are being recalled because debris can ignite on the exhaust manifold and frozen water can block a breather hose, leading to oil leaks and vehicle fires. Kawasaki has received 84 reports of fires and 165 reports of oil leaks, resulting in three injuries including burns and smoke inhalation. These vehicles were sold at Kawasaki dealers nationwide between July 2014 and December 2019 for between $12,000 and $18,000. Owners should contact a dealer for a free repair to address these fire hazards.
Debris collecting on the exhaust manifold can catch fire during operation, and oil can leak from a blocked breather hose onto hot engine components, causing the vehicle to ignite. This has already resulted in 84 vehicle fires and three documented injuries, including burns to users' limbs and smoke inhalation.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled utility vehicles and contact a Kawasaki dealer to schedule a free repair. Kawasaki is contacting all known purchasers directly.
