Summary

Kawasaki is recalling about 7,000 of its 2012 Teryx4 4x4 recreational off-highway vehicles because the steering gear assembly and front brakes can fail. This defect can lead to a complete loss of steering and braking control while driving, creating a life-threatening situation. These vehicles were sold in red, camouflage, green, blue, and yellow at Kawasaki dealers nationwide between October 2011 and July 2012. Owners should contact a Kawasaki dealer to arrange for a free repair.

Risk

The steering and braking components can fail during operation, which would cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash. This failure poses a severe risk of serious injury or death to the driver and passengers.

What You Should Do

  1. Identify your vehicle by looking for the model name 'Teryx4' on the driver's side of the hood of your 2012 Kawasaki 4x4 off-highway vehicle.
  2. Check for style markings: the 750 EPS and 750 EPS LE models have 'EPS' printed on the driver and passenger side cowling near the top front corner of the doors, while 'LE' appears on the hood of the LE model.
  3. Immediately stop using the recalled vehicle and contact an authorized Kawasaki dealer to schedule a free repair of the steering gear and front brakes.
  4. For more information or to find a dealer, contact Kawasaki toll-free at (866) 802-9381 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or visit their website at www.kawasaki.com.
  5. Contact the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 for additional consumer safety questions.
