Summary

John Deere has recalled about 1,700 riding lawn tractors because the brake arm can fail, leading to a loss of braking ability. The recall affects models D110, D125, D130, D140, D155, D160, and D170 with serial numbers starting with '1GXD'. These green and yellow tractors were sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, and other dealers nationwide between May 2015 and August 2015. Consumers should immediately stop using these tractors and contact a John Deere dealer for a free repair.

Risk

The brake arm on these tractors can break or fail during operation. If this happens, the operator may be unable to stop the vehicle, creating a crash hazard that could result in serious injury or death.

What You Should Do

  1. Check your lawn tractor to see if it is model D110, D125, D130, D140, D155, D160, or D170. The model number is printed in yellow on the bottom left and right sides of the hood.
  2. Locate the serial number on the left side of the tractor, under the fender and above the left rear tire. Confirm if it begins with '1GXD'.
  3. Stop using the recalled lawn tractor immediately to prevent a potential crash.
  4. Contact an authorized John Deere dealer to schedule a free repair of the brake arm. You can find a dealer or check the full list of affected serial numbers at www.deere.com by selecting 'Product Recall Information' under the 'Services & Support' menu.
  5. For further information, call Deere & Company at 800-537-8233 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
