John Deere Recalls Gator Utility Vehicles Due to Fire Hazard

Summary

John Deere is recalling approximately 4,650 Gator RSX850i Base, Sport, and Trail model recreational utility vehicles because the fuel line can separate. There have been three reports of separated fuel lines, which can lead to fuel leaks and a high risk of fire. These two-person vehicles were manufactured between May 2012 and October 2012 and were sold in various colors including camo, olive/black, and traditional green/yellow. Consumers should immediately stop using these vehicles and contact a John Deere dealer for a free inspection and repair.

Risk

If the fuel line separates during use, fuel can leak onto hot engine components, creating a fire hazard. While John Deere has received three reports of fuel line separation, no injuries have been reported to date.

What You Should Do

  1. Locate the 'RSX850i' model name on the hood of your utility vehicle to confirm the model.
  2. Check your vehicle's serial number on the rear frame, located just above the receiver hitch, to see if it matches the affected ranges: 1M0850TB++M010013 through 1M0850TB++M010768; 1M0850TS++M010001 through 1M0850TS++M011932; or 1M0850TT++M010001 through 1M0850TT++M012765.
  3. Immediately stop using any recalled utility vehicles to prevent a potential fire.
  4. Contact a John Deere dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair of the fuel line system.
  5. For more information, contact Deere & Company at 800-537-8233 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET on Saturdays, or visit www.johndeere.com and click on 'Services and Support'.
  6. Call the CPSC Hotline at 800-638-2772 if you have additional questions regarding this recall.
